If music, (which is a form of art), is pure opinion, then that must mean…?
Soulja Boy could be better than Nas.
The Jonas Brothers could be better than The Beatles.
And Hannah Montana could be better than Madonna
Right?
I mean come on, there is an obvious skill level difference in the aforementioned. Why do some people HAVE to argue?
It's not an opinion. I asked this question before and a lot of dumbasses said that I was right. I think I used Lil' Wayne instead of Soulja Boy, so they agreed Wayne was better than Nas. OK.
If you say talent is an opinion than that would infer that all musical artist are equal in talent. Which is obviously not the case.
But by admitting that it isn't opinion than you would have to accept logically that there would have to objectively be a greatest of all time, which is really hard to agree on.
So really what's opinionated is not the talent of the artist yet the system in which one uses to deduce who is better than another artist talent wise.
The same holds true to quality of songs, albums, etc.

Oh no doubt.
EDIT: Jonas Brothers express their pent up sexual feelings for each other in their songs thats why they are the best!

I guess you could say that. Like, if you were figuring out artists that sound good to 13 year old girls, the first artists in each comparison would be "better."

There is a difference between Soulja Boy to Nas and Jonas Brothers to Beatles and Hannah Montana to Madonna. Music is a form of expressing ones self. Soulja Boy Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana, don't make music for expressing themselves but rather for money. I'm not saying the other people don't sing for money but that isn't their main deal. Otherwise the Beatles would have stayed together and Nas would drop to Soulja Boy's level. Madonna and Hannah Montana are basically the same person just 20-30 years apart

Music is opinion. There's no doubt about that. There are a lot of people who would rather listen to Soulja Boy than Nas.
However, many people base their opinion on things that can't be argued. You can't deny that Nas had more lyricism than Soulja Boy. All Nas fans appreciate lyricism, which is why they think he's better. But a lot of people just want a catchy beat. They couldn't care less about lyricism, so in their opinion, Soulja Boy is better.
So basically, skill isn't an opinion, and lyricism isn't an opinion. Nas wins both categories easily. But what sounds better is an opinion.

no. I always argue with my mom that some opinions are just downright stupid and should not be expressed.
