School Violence: A Serious Problem

By politicalwag.com | July 7, 2009

Man’s vigour in comprehending and perceiving things comes from his gained education. It is expected that schools guarantee 100% accountability in inculcating the basics to the learners.

Education plays an important role in a person’s existence. The school as institution is required to its students with quality education, while it is a big failure not to meet such expectation.

The school is the center for learning that should deliver its primary purpose to the students. A student who does not gain anything from a school could mean that the system is defunct, or the environment is inappropriate for learning.

Studies and researches have shown that school violence is one of the culprits why the quality of education is worsening in the United States. It is crucial that school administrators preserve tranquillity of the campus to provide an appropriate place for learning. Fighting, gang activities, intimidating, thefts are the incidences that distract the learning atmosphere. Incidentally, it is neither the local government nor the parents of the student attackers which have the full liability for such violence in school.

The standing of the American education is rooted from the crucial problems of public schools, such as violence. The atmosphere of the center for learning is disgruntled with frequent violent incidents caused by the students. Students, as an effect, become unfocused about the learning and sometimes traumatized to physically go to school. This problem is not taken against the student inflictors, nor the parents and the government.

Bullying, attacking and other violent actions are the common serious problems of public schools in the country. Competitive advantage of individual schools, such as a good line up of faculty members, becomes useless because of an inappropriate learning environment. Idle times in school spent in settling violent events do not maximize the time of students who are supposed to be gaining sensible knowledge in classes.   The school administrators play an important role in resolving such serious problem by not simply punishing the student attackers or consulting the latter’s parents.

There is no absolute anti-violence program that can resolve school violence as it is specific for every school because of demographics. It is expected that even if the stimulus is the same, there are varied reactions gained from different types of students – which makes school culture unique from each other.

The key player to solve the issue of violence is the school administrator. In as much as people would expect more from the local government, it can only do as much because of the differences in school culture, beliefs and practice.   Consequently, since students from different schools have varied profile, they tend to react in their own way. This is the basic reason why the U.S. Department of Education cannot impose a fixed program to settle the crucial problem of violence.

The school administrators are the ones accountable for the consequences of the problem of violence. It is best that the school administrators be the ones to come up with their respective programs to solve the problem of violence in their respective area of coverage instead of complying with a regulation from the Department of Education which may not work relevantly in their school. It is expected to gain diverse responses from schools since each has distinct demographics. Then, there is no absolute anti-violence program which can mend the issue.

The school is the mover that can resolve such violence. A learning management system (LSM), software for online education training, is the excellent universal solution to the issue of school violence. The schools can benefit a lot from the LMS software as it can provide solutions to training and educational requirements. Unlike in the classroom set-up, each input of the students can be given measurable merits.

Basically the school is in the best position to design a system that can resolve the issue of violence in campus. And the plausible solution to the problem is a learning management system. An LMS can stop school violence in American public schools. LMS is software which can assist school administrators conduct, monitor, assess, and manage educational training through the web. The school administrators become focused on the learning materials of the students which can be made available online. An LMS can help the educators assess their students in the most objective manner based solely on the completed tasks.

A learning management system or LMS should be adopted by school administrators to directly combat the issue of violence.   LMS is software that delivers, provides, assesses, and monitors educational activities which are accessed using the internet. Students and teachers can interact with each other using the web, meeting the academic requirements way much better than in the classroom.   The teachers are able to provide comprehensive and intensive training materials and course manuals, and constructively award the students with recognition where it is due—in contrast to the existing classroom system.

Since violence involves physical force, then virtual interaction through the LMS is the perfect solution for the school issue.  The online interaction will curb student-to-student relationship to relevant topic discussions. The comfort and practicality of having to learn online eliminates any session disturbances as would have been caused by violent incidents in the campus. With the aid of technology, the students can develop the sense of responsibility in terms of completing academic tasks through the LMS. Further, the LMS can measure student performance readily.

When an LMS is espoused by the school, it is guaranteed that a hostile environment, that is the primary cause of learning inefficiency, is purged. The students will allotted with longer processing time to analyze and reflect on their tasks which is way better than getting hooked in gang activities, for instance.   The students will be trained to select and imbibe the essential things in particular topics, and in learning as a whole.   An LMS maximizes students’ time spent learning rather than consuming unproductive periods battling with other schoolmates.

The nature of virtual learning can bring many benefits to students. The environment in virtual learning through an LMS is way better than a hostile environment at school where the danger of getting into physical trouble and abuse by another student is possible. Students no longer get traumatized or to the same effect, fear going to school for possible violence encounters since their classes are held online—in the comforts of their personal spaces. The students are trained to take control over their academic tasks hence allowing them to focus on priorities instead of picking fights or engaging in gang activities when in school. In other words, the duration of learning is maximized with an LMS; hence education becomes intensive. In addition, an LMS encourages students to develop the sense of responsibility and diligence in respect to the academic tasks that they need to complete. And, with the help of an LMS, the performance of each student can be readily quantified online – without any thoughts of biases, etc.

The total eradication of school violence can definitely boost the quality of education in the public schools in the country. The only universal solution to the area-specific violence problem is a learning management system.

A learning management system is the answer to stop school violence in America. Public schools can produce competent students which is the start in uplifting the education system in the country.

Hostile environment in public schools can be abolished through a learning management system. The most essential thing is that the interests and inclinations of students are kept rising to combat the problem of violence at school. America can boost the quality of education in public schools through a learning management system.
