British Dad Dies after a Bar Brawl in Spain Ends With Him Falling from a Balcony
A dad from Bournemouth has died after an altercation with a gang in a bar close to his family’s Spanish second home when he attempted to help his sons who were getting beaten up. The 49-year-old father had taken his twin sons out to celebrate their birthdays when a bar fight got out of hand. The cause of the brawl is unclear but Mr Mallon was thrown from a 25ft balcony when he stepped in to help, leaving him in a coma for almost two weeks before his eventual death.
It’s every family’s worst nightmare, and the ultimate worst case scenario. The idea of everything going so completely wrong abroad, particularly in a town they’d visited countless times in the past and liked enough to have bought a second home there. We think of our holidays as an escape, a chance to relax and get away from the stress and trials of everyday life, but even in the most idyllic locations there is still a chance of something like this happening. Friends of the family claimed the youths set upon the twins because they were English, although this is unproven and other witnesses believed it was a disagreement over a local girl where people got carried away. Whatever the underlying cause of the fight it’s a horrible thought that anyone should have to go through something like this when they thought they were going to have a relaxing holiday.
So will incidents like this put people off visiting Spain or other similar popular destinations? Would you really want to buy a holiday home somewhere that has gangs who would do something like this? Really, these sort of occurances are far more common in the UK than they are in Spain. A whole gang of youths attacking a man in a quiet Spanish town is virtually unheard of and the most likely scenario is that it was a simple argument which got tragically out of control due to alcohol.
