How was the environmental balance influenced by Pacific sea otters?

Sea otters eat sea urchins which eat kelp. Remove the sea otters and the urchin population goes out of control eating all the kelp in the Pacific Kelp Forests and destroying that ecosystem

The kelp forests almost collapsed once because of overhunting sea otters. Sea Otters are now protected
