<p>Also, if a star&#8217;s mass is the force that combines hydrogen atoms and creates all the elements (via gravity), doesn&#8217;t all energy in the universe initially come from the force of gravity? Where does this energy come from?<br />
<br />Mass and energy are the same thing, and the law of conservation of energy says &quot;energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted from one form to another&quot;.<br />
As far as I can understand, some fusion reactions release energy, proton-proton repulsion, stored in atomic nuclei. Other fusion reactions store energy in the form of proton-proton repulsion. As well, neutron absorption following neutron-proton transmutation store energy in heavier atomic nuclei such as uranium. Hence, neutron is needed to destabilize heavier atomic nuclei releasing stored energy,  as well energetic collisions to fuse light atomic nuclei creating unstable nuclei releasing energy, or creating stable nuclei storing energy.<br />
Gravational energy is not consumed, I think it acts as a catalyst increasing pressure, which increases the temperature favoring energetic collisions.</p>

The wind turbine blades convert the KE to ME (mechanical energy; the one you left out of your list of &#8216;all&#8217; the forms of energy&#8230;!)<br />
The generator converts the ME to electrical energy, the most useful grade of energy.</p>
<p>At each conversion point, some of the input energy is not used, causing the output energy to be less than the input.  For ex:  The wind downstream of the blades is slowed, but not stopped.  Ergo, it still has some of its KE and the blades have picked up the rest as ME.  As I recall, the maximum efficiency of any blade system is about 36%.  The ME to EE step is about 90% efficient.  Of course, all the efficiencies multiply, so you come out with less than 36%, but considering that the original wind energy is created directly from solar heating of land masses (ie, free), things don&#8217;t look so gloomy&#8230;&#8230;.</p>

Turning down your thermostat, good insulation and more efficient boilers can help &#8211; and there is also support available to make your home more energy efficient.</p>

<p>You can get help to make your home more energy efficient, via the Home Energy Saving Programme, making it more attractive than ever to do something. You can make savings on your annual fuel bills and help the environment at the same time.</p>

A range of energy saving devices like low energy light bulbs, home energy monitors and energy saver plugs are also available. <p>Walls and roofs are the biggest heat loss culprits, but you don&#8217;t have to stop there:</p>

<p>    * insulate your hot-water tank</p>
<p> 
<p>    * lag your pipes</p>

<p>    * put draught-proofing strips round windows and doors &#8211; if you can feel cold air coming in, it means warm air is going out the same way, this is such an easy procedure for such a big gain</p>

<p>    * if your home has a cellar space, under-floor insulation can help keep the warmth in.</p>

Of course this could mean a tax on gasoline and your energy bills at home. </p>
<p>The Democratic Party will insist that the money will be set aside for research and development of alternative energy. They say the taxes will encourage people to use less energy that will limit global warming. </p>
<p>Would you support energy taxes for global warming?<br />
<br />I don&#8217;t support it.</p>
<p>The law of supply and demand dictates, that at least to some degree, demand will go down as the price continues to go up.  And as gas prices go up, alternative energy will become more attractive.  Even now, alternative energy tends to cost more to produce than good-old-oil, so those alternative sources don&#8217;t make much economic sense.</p>
<p>Over time, the free market can work it out just fine.</p>

<p>a energy bulb uses 25 watts of electricity to give the sam amount of light as a 100 watt conventonal bulb energy saving bulbs are either LED( light emmiting diode) or more commonly flourescent which contain gasit takes less electricity to heat the gas giving more light per watt of electricity than a normal light bulb. a watt is a unit of electricity the more watts used the more electricity being used. look on some of your household appliances and you will find out how much each different appliance uses  compare your kettle to a television the average kettle uses 2000 watts to 3000 watts or 2 to 3 kilowatts (KW) the average television uses 100 to 150 watts.</p>

		<title>Energy Performance for Buildings in Scotland &#8211; Basics Explained</title>

<p>When we talk about the ENERGY PERFORMANCE of our homes it relates to how energy efficient the surroundings are which we live in. There are many ideas we can implement as individuals within our homes, some of them for a minimum cost, whilst bringing notable benefits. </p>
<p>The energy we use in our homes is responsible for 27% of Scotland’s CO2 emissions — the main greenhouse gas responsible for climate change. Before you embark on any major changes consider 1st if at present your home is currently wasting energy. Is it literally flying out the door or through the gaps in those ill fitting windows? If so you are throwing away hundreds of pounds every year in energy bills. Below are some simple changes you could make which would bring dividends to the ENERGY PERFORMANCE in your home.</p>
<p>Make sure your home meets these sustainability goals that all reduce CO2 emissions and help to tackle climate change and if not it’s time to make those changes:</p>
<p>-Change all normal light bulbs to energy saving ones</p>
<p> 
<p>-Get your roof insulated or re-insulated if it’s either too thin or too old to be doing the job properly.</p>
<p> 
<p>-Insulate hot water cylinder and lag hot water pipes to preserve energy.</p>
<p> 
<p>-Stop draughts by filling any gaps in windows/door surrounds-leaving just enough air for ventilation to prevent condensation building up.</p>
<p> 
<p>-Try where possible to install short flush or low capacity cistern (as a 3rd of the water we use in our homes is for flushing of toilets)</p>
<p> 
<p>-Collect rain in a water butt for watering garden etc.</p>
<p> 
<p>-Monitor room temperatures and adjust heating thermostat accordingly(if you are away at the weekend do you really need the heating on ALL weekend?)</p>
<p> 
<p>-Bleed your radiators as often as they need-this is something many of us are guilty at not checking, but it makes a great deal of difference to the heat generated within the room.</p>
<p>Below we highlight on some of the changes that can we made as detailed above to give a better ENERGY PERFORMANCE in your home.</p>
<p><strong>Cut your demand for electricity</strong> — and cut your lighting bills by up to 80%.</p>
<p>Inefficient lighting wastes electricity — low energy lamps make a big difference because they use much less electricity and last up to 12 times longer than traditional light bulbs. They cost more to buy but cost much less to run. You can now buy lamps with LEDs (light emitting diodes) as well as CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps). The savings on energy and CO2 emissions are so great that it’s worth binning your other bulbs now!</p>
<p><strong>Insulate your roof</strong></p>
<p> 
<p>Houses built since the 1960s usually have some insulation in the roof — but it’s much thicker in more modern houses. Older houses often have none at all, or it may be damaged and ineffective. Check your loft space and bring your home up to modern standards — you may be able to get a grant or your energy provider may offer to install insulation at low cost. Even lower storey flats can benefit if the roof is insulated.<strong> </strong></p>
<p> 
<p><strong>By simply insulating your hot water tank </strong>hot water will stay hotter for longer therefore wasting less energy.</p>
<p> 
<p>Hot water cylinders should have solid foam insulation fitted in the factory or an insulated cylinder jacket. If the cylinder is bare or the layer of foam is so thin that it gets hot, fit an 80mm (3&#8243;) insulating jacket. Make sure to fit the jacket snugly around the pipes in and out of the cylinder for a distance of at least 1m (3&#8242;3&#8243;).</p>
<p><strong>Draft exclude doors and windows</strong></p>
<p> 
<p>This is something that is relatively easy simply by using rubber sealants and such like around door and window frames. Repair window frames and check that windows open easily for rapid ventilation — release any that are painted shut, replace sash cords for sliding sash windows. For upper storey windows only do this yourself if there are hinges that allow you to remove the window sashes safely, with no risk of falling.</p>
<p><strong>Summary</strong></p>
<p><strong>By actually being aware of your surroundings and what’s available on the market to improving upon the ENERGY PERFORMANCE of your home is the 1st step. Taking action is the 2nd and in implementing as many of the aforementioned with home improvements to prevent energy loss. The 3rd is watching those energy bills come down as a result and in doing so helping to preserve our planet.</strong></p>
<p><strong>If we all made at least some of the changes think how Globally this would help the ENERGY PERFORMACE of our buildings in our environment.</strong></p>

What energy efficient materials would you select to construct your house? What energy and water saving features would you include in your house?  Which direction would your house face? How will you handle waste water to reduce water pollution and water usage? What would make your house unique and sustainable? Do a little research before answering this – incorporate appropriate new technologies into your home to make it energy efficient.<br />
<br />Here is a list of sujects that you should research on the internet which will provide a comprehensive answer:</p>
<p>1. Double glazing will creat a near vacuum that is an excelelnt insulator from heat loss (or gain) by convection or conduction.  A special coating on the outside surface will also reduce gain through radiation<br />
2. A cavity between the internal and external walls filled with insulating materials will cut down loss through the walls. This material should be made with a fibre with high resistance to conductivity and have a reflective (shiney silver) coating form aluminium on one side. Walls can be wood or brick/stone<br />
3. Floors should be suspended from the earth but lined underneath by similar insulation materials to the walls.<br />
4. Roof should have plastic lining that prevents draughts and then a fibre insulation underneath also with reflective coating.<br />
5. Clay tiles or metal roof is fine.<br />
6. Doors should have effective draught excluders to prevent heat loss this way.<br />
7. add a heat pump system that extracts heat from atmosphere outside and upgrades it to provide background heating in loops located underneath your flooring.  This is also reverseable in Summer to provide cooling.<br />
8. Heating should be electrical using low cost power at night or if gas then a condensing boiler shoudl be used that extarct maximum heat from combustion.<br />
9. Solar heating panels on roof can pre-heat water<br />
10 small wind turbine can cut down on power<br />
11. Use low energy light bulbs<br />
12. always cook with lid on pots<br />
13. Use showers and not baths for washing<br />
14 Separate waste water from sewage and save for watering garden<br />
15. have toilets that flush small amounts for Urine and larger amounts for larger objects<br />
16 collect rainwater from roof and store for other uses<br />
17 Hetaing should be thermostatically controlled for effficiency<br />
18 If you liove in a very cold country then facing South Helps.  If a hot country then facing East ensures heat in mornings<br />
19.  If you want something unusual the try a micro gasifier heating system that exports excess energy to power on the grid but otherwise you create your own heat and power in a CHP unit<br />
20 consider buring waste packaging and wood in a multi product stove located in your main living are with balanced flue so that you do not suck air in from outside</p>
